Placement Testing

WHO: Students previously homeschooled or enrolled in a non-accredited school, currently enrolling into Yukon Public Schools. (OAC 210:35-25-2)

WHEN: Upon enrollment into Yukon Public Schools.

WHY: In order to ensure proper grade level placement of students to optimize their academic success.

WHAT: Assessments will measure current level of mastery of the Oklahoma Academic Standards (OAS) in the same way that curriculum and instruction are aligned with OAS. (OAC 210:35-25-2)

Placement for PreK - 1st is based on age per Oklahoma State Statutes.

Students must be of age on or before September 1st for enrollment in: PreK (4 years old); Kindergarten (5 years old);

1st Grade (6 years old). If student meets age and/or district requirements, then assessments are based on the following:

HOW: Parents/students are required to complete an application. The application is posted on the Yukon Public Schools, Office of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment website. Additional documentation will be considered, such as performance levels on available assessments, academic grades per course, and/or student work samples.

Successful demonstration of proficiency shall meet all of the following requirements:

  1. Yukon PS shall conference with the parents/guardians when making decisions regarding student placement. Such factors as social, emotional, and intellectual needs of the student will be considered.
  2. The student will show a level of proficiency in any sequence recommended by the school district of the Oklahoma Academic Standards (OAS) in core curriculum courses.
  3. If the parent/guardian request placement contrary to the recommendation of school personnel, the parent/guardian shall sign a written statement which shall be included in the permanent record of the student.

Application Process

  1. Visit the Enrollment Center at Yukon Middle School, 6th grade center at 1000 Yukon Avenue, Yukon, OK 73099. Phone: 405-265-1300 Fax: 405-265-1301
  2. Complete application for Placement Testing designating requested grade level.
  3. The Office of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment (CIA) will contact you to schedule testing for your student(s).
  4. Additional documentation may be requested, such as:
    1. Available current assessment results
    2. Record of academic grades
    3. Student work samples
  5. Notification to the parent/guardian will occur within two weeks of test administration.
  6. To request a grade placement appeal, complete the Appeal Form, and return to the CIA office at Yukon Public Schools Administration Building, 600 Maple Street, Yukon, OK 73099.
