NATIVE AMERICAN STUDENT SERVICES

Combining Education with Culture

WE STRIVE TO BE A STRONG SUPPORT SYSTEM BOTH ACADEMICALLY AND CULTURALLY FOR OUR NATIVE AMERICAN STUDENTS, SCHOOLS, AND FAMILIES. WE OFFER MANY CULTURAL SERVICES THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR AND, WHILE COLLABORATING WITH TRIBAL DEPARTMENTS, STUDENTS AND PARENTS ARE MORE FAMILIAR WITH WHAT THEIR TRIBE HAS TO OFFER. OUR ACADEMIC SUPPORT COMBINED WITH TRIBAL CULTURE WE HOPE WILL GIVE STUDENTS MANY OPPORTUNITIES TO BE SUCCESSFUL.

WHAT IS NASS/TITLE VI?

Title VI and the Native American Student Services programs are the same. Title VI is a U.S. Federal program where the student, parent, or grandparent should be enrolled with a State or  Federally recognized tribe. A Title 506 form needs to be filled out on each student and on file with the NASS department at Yukon Schools for a student to be enrolled.  The student is not required to have a tribal card to be enrolled but is encouraged to send a copy of one with the form.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Does my student need a tribal membership card to be enrolled in the Title VI program?

No.  The student, parent, or grandparent must be a member or be eligible for membership in a Federally or State recognized tribe to be enrolled.

Do I have to fill out a Title VI enrollment form for my student to receive services?

Yes. There must be a completed 506 form for each eligible student on file in the NASS office to receive services. Please click on the form to the right for the online application.  Forms need to be signed and sent back to Kim McCathern/Facilitator.  If you need a hard copy mailed to you, contact our office (information below).

Do I have to fill out a new form each school year to stay enrolled in NASS?

No. Once an enrollment form for NASS has been filled out, the student remains in the NASS program until they graduate from high school.

Is Title VI and JOM the same program?

No. Title VI/NASS is a grant administered through Yukon Public Schools. The JOM grant is administered by the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes. Two separate programs and two separate enrollment forms.  Please see our JOM tab for additional information on the JOM program.

Title VI Activities

We provide several activities throughout the school year for different grade levels. Some of our activities are done in the classroom so that all students have the opportunity to learn about Native American culture.  We also provide arts and crafts and evening events for NASS students and their immediate families.

Activities and events will vary for each school year.
