  • This year we had 57 Classroom, Library, PR, Mini Miller and Student Helping Hand Coordinators.  Included in this Volunteer number are the 610 volunteers in our database.
  • Background checks ~ We conducted over 1400, background checks on volunteers and field trip sponsors. This was another saving of $21,000 to the district.
  • Vision and Hearing Screening ~ We screened 4,545 children from Yukon’s HeadStart program, Kindergarten through eighth grade, YALE students and two private schools. Also, 108 Pre-kindergarten students. We mailed 478 referrals for a full medical eye evaluation this school year.  We had 8 Vision & Hearing Coordinators, 45 Vision & Hearing Volunteers, and 20 Students from Health Careers Classes who donated 2335 volunteer hours to complete this project.  We are currently screening 5 sessions of Drivers Ed students throughout the summer.
  • ID Cards ~ August 2005, we printed all Yukon High School Student and all Yukon staff ID cards.
  • Kids On the Block ~ Performed the Physical and Sexual Abuse scripts the 1st semester and Dealing With Bullies scripts 2nd semester. KOB performed for Yukon elementary students and their peers in the Academic Tutoring classes at YHS 11/12.
  • Academic Tutors ~ We work with Belinda Bedell to make sure teacher’s requests are filled. We ask for volunteers from the community and academic tutors to train as a Kids on the Block volunteers
  • Volunteer Substitute ~.  Each month were asked to volunteers cover classes so in order that new teachers to our district could attend the New Teacher Induction Meetings. Or YHS teachers could attend SLC meetings.
  • 75 Miller Mentors ~ Mentors met with a least one child 30 minutes once or twice a week.
  • Santa’s Friends ~ This year we spent $2,962.00 and sent 14 children to the eye doctors and purchased glasses. We also purchased clothing and medications for other needy students in our district.
  • Dental Health Month ~ February 2006, we coordinated with area dentists to volunteer their time for free dental checks for all Yukon Schools 1st graders. We also including S. W. Covenant, St. Johns and Piedmont schools. We also scheduled appointments for the 3rdd annual national "GIVE THEM A SMILE DAY". Needy students received a free day of dental care. Eleven Yukon Dentists donated $18,771.00 in free dental care to help our children districts students.
  • Volunteer Nurses and Doctors ~ We have a calling tree in the event of a school emergency or disaster to be on call. They also donated two days to give YPS employees free flu shots.
  • Student Helping Hands  ~ 275 elementary 4th & 5th grade students gave 15 minutes once a week: peer tutoring, helping shelf books in the library, working with sight words with 1st graders and served as playground mediators.
  • Volunteer Field Trips ~ Because of our dedicated 4th "R" Art Program and volunteer docents, the OCAM with the "InAsMuch Foundation”, paid for all 4th graders in our district to go to the OK City Art Museum and for the bus transportation. 424 Yukon Public School Fourth Graders attended. This averaged out to a monetary gift to Yukon schools of $2,120 to cover the admission charges for the children. Plus 99 adults who attended = $693.00, and the bus transportation costs of $776.00 = Total gift would be $3,589.00.  Helping Hands Volunteer program had 18 Volunteers who went for the Artist in Narrative Exhibit Docent training. They participated in the museums class presentations and gave the tours and explained the exhibits to the students and teachers.  All at NO COST to the district.
  • Two Mini Miller Nurseries for volunteers to leave their small children while they volunteer in the schools.
  • Public Relations ~ For the 4th years in a row, we provided training for volunteer Public Relations Coordinators, from each school site to send articles and pictures to the Yukon Review Newspaper.
