Proficiency Based Promotion (PBP)

PBP is an opportunity for your child to test for advancement to the next level of study by subject or an entire level. PBP Assessments will measure mastery of the Oklahoma Academic Standards (OAS) in the same way that curriculum and instruction are aligned with OAS.

Application Process

Parents/students are required to complete an application.  The application is posted on the Yukon Public Schools, Office of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment website. Additional documentation will be considered, such as performance levels on previous state summative assessments, academic grades per course, and principal/teacher/counselor recommendations.

Successfully demonstration of proficiency shall meet all of the following requirements:

  1. Yukon PS shall conference with the parents/guardians when making decisions regarding student promotion.  Such factors as social, emotional, and intellectual needs of the student will be considered.
  2. The student will demonstrate proficiency in any sequence recommended by the school district.
  3. If the parent/guardian request promotion/acceleration contrary to the recommendation of school personnel, the parent/guardian shall sign a written statement which shall be included in the permanent record of the student.

Testing Specifics

In accordance with Oklahoma State Law, two testing opportunities are offered each year for qualifying students. The testing opportunities for Yukon Public Schools are provided once in June and once in August. Qualifying students are those who are legally enrolled in the local school district (Yukon Public Schools). (OAC 210:35-27-2. Proficiency Based Promotion)

If your child wants to skip a grade level, they are required to complete a test for all core subject areas; English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.  Middle School and High School students (Grades 6 -12) may promote by course not grade level and must complete the applicable state summative assessment.

Proficiency for advancing to the next level of study will be demonstrated by a 90% on a district-administered assessment.  Upon completion, test scores will be sent to parent and site principal via email.  Specific test content cannot be discussed due to test security. (OAC 210:35-27-2 Proficiency Based Promotion)

Oklahoma State Law prohibits Yukon Public Schools from providing Pre-K proficiency exams for early entrance into Kindergarten and K proficiency exams for early entrance into 1st Grade. (OK School Code Section 14.C)
