About Us

Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment

It is Yukon Public Schools' belief that all children are unique individuals, capable and creative. We believe that the educational experience should be structured to provide an appropriate environment in which children can grow emotionally, socially, intellectually and physically. The curriculum of Yukon's School System is arranged to benefit the students academically and prepare them effectively for advanced education or an easy transition to the workforce. Strong emphasis is placed on basic education skills at each level. Every effort is made to maintain an aligned curriculum, which tests students on information they are expected to learn. This information is included in the instruction they receive.

Michele is starting her third year as curriculum coordinator for Yukon. In addition to those three years, she spent twelve years in the classroom and is currently attending school for a Masters in Education. Michele’s favorite thing about her position is being able to support the highly dedicated teachers in this district. She loves seeing the passion that they show for their students every day. “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” This quote by Benjamin Franklin is Michele’s inspiration for taking the district’s elementary math and science to a higher level of rigor.

Dawna Schweitzer
Secondary Math and Science Curriculum Coordinator
Ext. 1040

In her role as Secondary Math and Science Coordinator, Dawna strives to work with teachers to provide an engaging curriculum that will equip Yukon students for the future. “There are in fact two things, science and opinion. The former begets knowledge, the latter ignorance.” This quote by Hippocrates captures Dawna’s passion for science. When asked what else she’d like for others to know, Dawna encourages everyone to check the organ donor box on their driver’s license.

Drew Price
Language Arts Curriculum Coordinator
Ext. 1055

Drew’s favorite quote reflects his passion as a lifelong learner and experience as a secondary English teacher: “The fool doth think he is wise, but the wise man knows himself to be a fool.” (Shakespeare). In his current position as English Language Arts Coordinator, he enjoys being able to collaborate with other teachers from various grade levels and backgrounds. Drew is returning to Yukon Public Schools after teaching English, coaching soccer, and serving as an Instructional Coach in Putnam City, as well as time in Oklahoma City Public Schools as the Instructional Coach Coordinator.

Donna Morris

“They don’t care how much you know unless they know how much you care.”  Her favorite quote perfectly sums up Donna’s mission in working with the educators of Yukon Public Schools. She utilizes knowledge from twenty-seven years in the classroom, twenty-five years as a coach, six years as a district athletic director, and four years as a curriculum coordinator as she works alongside Yukon’s finest to help our students succeed. Donna is passionate about making the public education system the best it can be. When she’s not working with teachers, Donna enjoys running, cycling, playing golf, and eating bacon.

Amy Wingard
Gifted and Talented Facilitator
Ext. 1077

“What makes a child gifted and talented may not always be good grades in school, but a different way of looking at the world and learning.” (Chuck Grassley) This quote is the perfect reflection of Amy’s favorite thing about her role. She loves the excitement shown by students when they come to GATE. They are always eager to learn and be challenged. Not only does Amy work with GATE students, but she also works with teachers in Yukon. She enjoys helping teachers find new ones to differentiated learning in their classrooms to reach all students. When she’s not challenging teachers and students with new learning, she loves to read, spend time with her family, and visit the beach.
