The Yukon High School varsity pom squad recently attended the American Showdown nationals at Ft. Worth. The squad competed in three divisions: pom, jazz and combined dance, and received the national title in all three. In addition, the squad earned the highest total points in the combined dance category, and received the grand champion plaque. Coach Melissa Linduff won the choreography award for the jazz routine, which she choreographed in honor of her late father.

Competition staff nominated Yukon for the Sportsmanship award, based on how the squad members interacted with and supported their competitors. The PC North pom squad was also nominated for the award, and for the first time, two squads each received the trophy.

Jaimie George and Jayce Jones competed in the small ensemble division and won the national title, and Riki Sills received third place for her solo performance.

The squad's charter bus was welcomed back to town by a police escort, with several "fans" waiting at the high school. A big "Thank you!" to the pom moms who kept the cell towers buzzing all the way from Ft. Worth making the arrangements. In addition, News 9 was waiting at the school, and did a piece about the squads' success on the news.
