Curriculum

Statement

It is Yukon Public Schools’ belief that all children are unique, capable, and creative individuals. The curriculum of Yukon’s School System is arranged to benefit the student’s academically as well as to prepare them effectively for advanced education or an easy transition to the work force. Strong emphasis is placed on basic education skills at each level.

Students in Yukon Schools enjoy a challenging curriculum. A wide spectrum of classes ranging from special education to college level advanced placement classes is offered. At this time, 144 courses are available as well as identification services for special education and intellectually gifted students. Both Yukon High School campuses, (the 9th and 10th grade center and the 11th and 12th grade center), have passed rigid standards in order to qualify for membership into the North Central Association of Schools.

Testing Information

Our district participates in state-mandated testing for grades three, four, five, six, seven and eight as well as End of Instruction for Algebra I, Biology I, English II, and U. S. History. This state-mandated Criterion Reference Testing is administered during the spring of each school year.

*It should be noted that the Performance Level scores for Algebra I were revised the summer of 2007. In essence, this revision significantly altered the number of correct answers that a student must produce in order to score in the four Performance Levels (i.e., last year a score of 46 and higher out of a possible 55 would place a student in the Advanced category. This year, a score of 39 and higher out of a possible 55 would place a student in the Advanced category).
