Good News

  • Parkland Elementary continues collaboration with SWOSU (Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, OK) to conduct two adventure field trips for the students that earn A.N.T. and S.K.U.B.A. club membership.
  • Mrs. Elaine Blevins is named Parkland Elementary 'Teacher of the Year' for 2006-2007.
  • Mrs. Elaine Blevins & Mrs. Carolyn Johnson begin the process to earn National Board Certification.
  • Parkland Elementary's 2005-2006 Annual Report Card reflects a total API score of 1407 out of 1500. The state average is 1180.
  • Parkland fifth grade students plan to present the full scale musical, 'Beauty & the Beast' in May of 2007.
  • Parkland PSO Fall Fundraiser had a huge success with their Cherrydale cookie dough sales.
  • Parkland PSO organizes their first annual silent auction at the annual Open House night. The event raised approximately $5,000.00.
  • Mrs. Douglas, P.E. Instructor, organized Parkland's participation in Jump Rope for Heart in February.
  • Mrs. Douglas organizes Parkland's participation in the Jump Rope for Heart program. A competitive jump rope team from Lawton, OK came to Parkland in February to help kickoff our program.
  • Mrs. Sue Hooge and Mrs. Kasi Westfahl both receive a Foundation of Excellence grant in the fall of 2006.
  • On February 8th, the 2nd annual OSCARS banquet was held to recognize the top student in each third, fourth, and fifth grade classroom for the first semester. Brock Duke, a former Parkland student, was the guest speaker. Brock is an attorney for the Ft. Worth District Attorney's Office in Ft. Worth, Texas.
  • Parkland Elementary Faculty establishes a Cancer Relay for Life team to participate in the June walk-a-thon to help raise money for Cancer Awareness.
  • Parkland PSO plans for a first ever Family Bingo Night in the spring of 2007.
  • Jack Maney and Brendon Eason, both Parkland fourth grade students, took Champion and 1st Runner-Up at the Yukon District Third & Fourth grade spelling bee on February 15th.
  • Mrs. Neta Duke, fourth grade teacher, is recognized at the Oklahoma School for Science and Mathematics Teacher Appreciation Day Ceremony on February 28th. Mrs. Duke was nominated by a former Parkland student that is currently attending OSSM.
  • Parkland Elementary Student Council sponsored the following activities for community outreach projects:
    • Annual Harvest Food Drive,
    • Project PRIDE,
    • Assisted with Red Ribbon Week activities( Drug Awareness),
    • Organized a pickle sale during lunch,
    • Sponsored Teacher Appreciation Week activities,
    • Assisted treats and greeting at February SCC meeting.
