Passenger cars not driven for one year: 557
Tree seedlings grown for 10 years – 79,401

Yukon Public Schools
Office of the Superintendent
Dear Faculty and Staff:
Energy is perhaps our most rapidly rising operating expense. Our schools are facing the dilemma of increased expectations and reduced state funding; therefore, energy management is a necessity.
Energy conservation is everyones' responsibility. Every dollar that pays an unnecessarily high-energy bill could be spent for a much better purpose, teaching children. A quarter, fifty cents and a dollar here DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
Our mission must be to provide the best possible education for all our students. Because rising energy costs have continued to take over increasing amounts of budget dollars, Yukon Schools adopted an energy conservation policy last year. An energy management plan has been developed which will allow our district to substantially reduce energy-related expenses. A saving of over $300,0000 was saved last year, by everyone pitching in and doing their part to conserve our resources. That equated to a 24% savings monthly on our utility bills!
I take great pleasure in announcing the appointment of Mrs. Christine Sorrels, the Energy Manager for our organization. She was selected from an outstanding array of applicants, with Energy Education Inc. having the deciding factor. Christine will be responsible for carrying out the energy management program for Yukon Schools. I will expect all staff members to cooperate with Christine in any and all ways. Mrs. Sorrels will be our final authority on methods of reducing energy costs.
YPS Faculty and staff, you did a tremendous job last year by making huge strides in conserving our natural resources and by diligently conserving the dollars budgeted. Thank you for the conscientious efforts you implemented in your buildings. With all of us working together, we will again this year be able to continue providing the quality education which our community expects and deserves.
Sincerely,
Kent Mathers, Secondary Superintendent
