Mrs. Amy Loeffelholz is the first Teacher of the Year at Lakeview Elementary School. She was chosen by her teaching colleagues at LES to be the TOY for the 2011-2012 school year. Mrs. Loeffelholz has been teaching for 8 years.
Mrs. Loeffelholz says that education chose her. She was working in a daycare one summer when she was in college studying to be an optometrist, and taught preschool. She fell in love with the interaction with the children and soon went back to school in the fall and changed her major to education.
This year she have been developing curriculum for STEM, a new "specials" class at Lakeview. She says that she really enjoys the anticipation that the kids have in discovering what they will do next. She loves making her classroom a safe place for new ideas and where students feel willing to accept new challenges.
Mrs. Loeffelholz says that the thing that makes her job worthwhile is the relationships she has with the students. She loves being able to talk with students and learn about their lives. She says that learning is important, but the relationship built is what lasts.
